Family Advisory Committee

What is Family Support?

Family support refers to the basic services that enable a family to function effectively as caregivers and advocates for their family member with developmental disabilities in the home or other community placement.  Some examples of these services include respite care, behavioral intervention services, infant development and adult day programs, and living options. The issue of family support is important to all families of NBRC consumers, whether their children are babies, school age or adults.

What is the Family Advisory Committee?

The Family Advisory Committee was founded in October 1999 as a subcommittee of the Strategic Planning Committee for NBRC to ensure that the family viewpoint would be incorporated into NBRC procedures and policies which impact services provided to NBRC consumers, as well as for long range planning for the regional center. It is a committee made up of parents, NBRC staff and other service agency staff. We currently meet usually on the first Tuesday of each month.

How can I participate?

All that are interested in joining our committee are welcome. We are especially looking for more representation from Sonoma County, as well as bilingual Spanish and Filipino family members from all counties. If you are interested in more information about this committee, receiving our email announcements, or in joining, please contact richardr@nbrc.net.
